The Greatest Free Show on Earth Is Back: Circleville's Pumpkin Show Turns 119
Circleville, Ohio's 119th Pumpkin Show returns October 21–24 — still free, still enormous, and this year with a patriotic twist.
The Circleville Pumpkin Show is coming back for its 119th year, and the town is already deep in preparation. The 119th Circleville Pumpkin Show will be held October 21–24, 2026, and per the Circleville Herald in early September, this one carries a special theme: pumpkins, parades, agriculture and generations of tradition will take on a patriotic twist this October as the show celebrates America's 250th.
What happened
A festival that has been running since it was inaugurated in October 1903 is gearing up again, and the lead-up news has been steadily cheerful. Official 2026 Pumpkin Show merchandise went on sale August 25, including official clothing and the 2026 commemorative pin — giving longtime collectors, local residents and visitors an early chance to celebrate the 119th show. The pin itself has a hometown story: this year's design was created by a Circleville native and selected through a communitywide design contest. And in mid-September, the Pickaway County Visitors Bureau rolled out a new Pumpkin Show Companion, a resource that brings together helpful information for visitors before and during the show.
Why it matters
There aren't many things in American life that have happened every October for more than a century, in the same small town, for free. The Circleville Pumpkin Show is the "Greatest Free Show on Earth" and is always held the third Wednesday through Saturday in October. It's also no small operation: it's considered the biggest festival in the United States dedicated to the pumpkin, and one count ranks it the sixth-largest festival in the country.
The scale of the thing is half the joy. More than 100,000 pounds of pumpkins, squash, and gourds are on display, and approximately 23,000 pumpkin pies and more than 100,000 pumpkin donuts are sold from local vendors over the course of the event. If a food can be made from a pumpkin, somebody in Circleville is frying, baking, or churning it — pumpkin donuts, pancakes, burgers, ice cream, cookies, fudge, brownies, cream puffs, and waffles included.
A small town that draws the whole map
Circleville sits on US Route 23, roughly 25 miles south of Columbus — close enough for a day trip, far enough to feel like somewhere. The show has a pull well beyond Pickaway County: people from over 34 states and 13 different countries have been documented attending in recent years. The parades alone are a production, with over forty floats and fifty bands participating — and yes, The Ohio State University Marching Band appears for the Parade of Bands. It's the kind of week where the whole state shows up in a town of a few blocks, which is exactly the Ohio we like to put on a shirt — you'll find that spirit all over our Ohio collection.
Go see it
Mark the calendar for October 21–24 and get there early on day one: the pumpkin emphasis begins on the first day with the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-In on Main Street, where the giants are trucked in, usually one at a time, and offloaded with heavy equipment. If you want to plan ahead, the Pumpkin Show Companion will keep growing as events and visitor info are confirmed. And if the OSU band marching past a wall of pumpkins sounds like your kind of evening, you already know what to wear — our O-H Tee was made for calling out the first half of that cheer in a crowd that will absolutely finish it.
